Fake call center duping credit card users busted in JanakPuri, 11 arrested


In a month-long major operation, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police busted a fake call centre in Janakpuri for duping innocent credit card holders. The accused allegedly duped gullible people from various parts of the country by luring them to activate new cards on the pretext of redeeming them reward points. They cheated people by saying that their card limit would be increased and new cards would be activated if they redeemed reward points.

In January, police raided a rented house in Mahavir Nagar in Delhi which functioned as a fake call centre and arrested three people from the spot. Continuing the operation, the police further intensified the raid and made several arrests.

The kingpin of the gang has been identified as Omaan aka Abid. The employees of the call centre managed to obtain crucial details of new credit card holders illegally and introduced themselves as bank executives from the State Bank of India (SBI) Credit Card department and duped people.

Acting on a tip-off, the police officials conducted a raid in Delhi's Janakpuri and busted a fake call centre and arrested eleven people. Police received specific information that Omaan has been running a small call centre in Janakpuri. The fraudsters managed to earn Rs 50 to 60 lakhs from this cheating racket.

The accused have been identified as Omaan (18), Kaif (16), Haseem (16), Jagdeep Kaur (18), Riddhi (21), Faizan (27), Sajan (28), Vishal (23), Ravi(26), Sajan (24) and Sanjay (36).

The fake call centre was run and managed by Omaan and the employees arranged data of credit card holders fraudulently from a company involved in selling credit card insurance.

After obtaining the credit card and OTP details from people, the gang transferred the cheated amount through Mobikwik wallet. They transferred huge sums of money to several fake bank accounts for cheating.

The call centre was started by Omaan and employees were paid a monthly salary of Rs 15,000 along with incentives. Police recovered 28 A4 sized sheets and each sheet contained data of 100 credit card users.

Police seized 117 sim cards, 28 mobile phones, registers and sheets containing data of cheated people and transcripts used for communication. The accused duped more than 100 people across the country and extorted a huge sum of money.
