Key Highlights of New Education Policy 2020



1. National Testing Agency (NTA) will offer high quality common aptitude test as well as specialized common subject test.

2. Tech Based options for adult learning through apps, TV Channels etc.

3. National Mission on Foundation Literacy and Numeracy to be set up by MHRD.

4. Nutrition, Health cards, regular health check-up for students.

5. Academic session to begin in September-October.

6. All higher education institute to become multidisciplinary by 2040.

7. One large multidisciplinary institute in or near every district by 2030.

8. IITs to become multidisciplinary institution, opening doors for humanities students.

9. Undergraduate degree courses to have multiple exit options.

10. An Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) shall be established which would digitally store the academic credits earned.

11. International Students Office at each institution for hosting foreign students.

12. High performing Indian Universities will be encouraged to set-up campuses in other countries.

13. National Research Foundation (NRF) to be established.

14. NEP proposes the setting up of Indian institute of Translation and Interpretation (IITI) while also laying emphasis on Sanskrit and other Indian Languages

15. The 10+2 structure in school education will be modified with a new pedagogical of 5+3+3+5 covering ages 8-13.

16. E-Content will be available in Regional languages apart from English and Hindi.

17. A National Curricular and Pedagogical Framework for Early Childhood Care and Education (NCPFECCE) to be developed by NCERT.

18. Coding to be taught from Grade 6 onward.

19. Importance of Boards to be reduced, exams can be conducted twice a year and will be conducted in two parts - Objective & Descriptive.

20. 360 degree holistic report card for Students.

21. More focus on Vocational Studies in school level

22. School complexes to be used for adult education courses after school hours. 

23. Bag-Less days will be encouraged.

24. Education Sector to get 6% GDP, earlier it was 1.7%

25. Various new Provisions for children with disabilities

26. Higher Education Commission of India (HECI) will be set up as a single overarching umbrella body for entire higher education

27. Digital & Online Learning will be promoted.

28. Curriculum to be reduced, content will focus on idea, application, problem-solving.

29. Experimental learning in all stages.

30. No Hard separation of streams for students.

31. Indian Sign Language to be standardized across the country.

32. Three languages to be learned by children will be the choice of state, region and students.
